How Far Is Pho King From Ellsworth?

Around twenty seven miles, and realistically thirty five to forty minutes depending on the season. Route 1A runs west out of Ellsworth through the towns between, meets Interstate 395 at Brewer, and I-395 takes you across the Penobscot into Bangor and onto the Hammond Street corridor. We are at 1114.

It is a single, simple run with no complicated turns, and Route 1A is a well maintained main road. The one thing worth planning around is summer traffic. Route 1A is the artery that carries visitors between Bangor and the coast, and in July and August the eastbound flow can be heavy. Travelling mid morning or later in the evening avoids most of it.

Given the distance, calling ahead on (207) 573-4309 is genuinely worthwhile. We would rather check stock for you than have you drive forty minutes for something we sold out of yesterday.

Why Ellsworth Residents Make the Drive

Ellsworth is a city of around 8,400 people and was the fastest growing city in Maine through the 2000s, so it is not short of retail. What we would offer is not convenience, because we cannot beat forty minutes on convenience. It is range and knowledge.

We hold a deep selection across every format rather than a narrow one, and our staff will spend the time to get you to the right product instead of the nearest one. For customers who have driven from Ellsworth, that matters more than it does for someone who lives five minutes away and can come back tomorrow.

Realistically, most of our Ellsworth trade comes from people already heading to Bangor for something else, whether that is the airport, the hospital, the mall or the concert venue. If Bangor is on your list anyway, we are an easy addition on the Hammond Street side, and you can buy enough to last.

Ellsworth, Downeast, and the Road to Acadia

Ellsworth was founded in 1800 and has spent most of the time since as the place everything Downeast passes through. It is the commercial centre for the region and the gateway to Acadia, sitting roughly fifteen miles from the national park, which means that essentially anyone driving to Bar Harbor or Mount Desert Island comes through the city.

That position defines the local economy and the local rhythm. Ellsworth’s population effectively multiplies in summer as visitor traffic moves through, and the businesses along Route 1 and Route 1A live and die by that season. It is a working city with a tourist artery running through it, which is an unusual combination and gives the place its particular character.

For us it means two distinct kinds of Ellsworth customer. Year round residents making a planned trip, and summer visitors who are already on the road and happy to detour.

What Ellsworth Customers Buy

Because the drive is long, Ellsworth customers tend to buy deliberately and in larger quantities. Flower by the eighth or more is common, and concentrates and live resin appeal to customers who want the most value in the smallest package.

Edibles and tinctures also travel well and keep. If you are stocking up, storage becomes the thing that determines whether the trip was worth it, so our guides to storing weed and how long cannabis stays fresh are worth five minutes. We also carry storage and accessories in the shop.

If you are visiting the area rather than living here, our first time guide covers what to bring and expect.
